There are a multitude of mental illnesses, some you may not have known are an illness. With mental illnesses comes a negative stigma. As we grow as a society the stigma is slowly dying but is still prevalent. People think if someone has a mental illness there is something terribly wrong with them, they shouldn't be that way, and they shouldn't need to ask for help they should just stop feeling/acting that way.
This is not the case. Mental illness are usually caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain - this is NOT your fault. Mental illnesses can also be caused by the environment someone grew up in, or are still in. A lot of people go through these illnesses in silence, they are too scared to ask for help because they fear being judged.
Remember to be kind to those around you, they could be fighting a battle you are unaware of. It is MORE THAN OKAY to ask for help! I know I've heard/seen people say "oh just stop being sad" or "stop fidgeting you don't need to do that." We have to remember these are things that people are unable to control. Give them a listening ear. Spread love in all that you do. To help break the stigma be willing to learn about mental health, share your knowledge, and reach out to others.
You are loved. You are valued. We can break the stigma behind mental health, together.
